Dear Players, Officials and Supporters,
As the festive season is upon us, I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new incoming Chairman of our league and to extend my warmest Christmas wishes to you and your families.
It is both an honour and a privilege to take on this role, and I am excited about the journey ahead as we continue to work together to make our league the best it can be for all its members. I would also like to thank and recognise the great work by the previous Chairman Gordon Smith, Vice Chairman Jamie Dowley, and Treasurer Mike Hall, who have stepped down from their roles, having served the league committee with outstanding commitment and contribution for many years - thank you.
I would like to extend my congratulations to Phil Parker, Liam O'Neill, and Nick Broadbent on their new appointments. Many of you are already familiar with Phil, who serves as the Chairman of Ludlow CC and is also their 1st team scorer. He brings a wealth of experience to this new role as the SCCL Vice Chairman. Liam, our new Treasurer, is an accountant by profession, and we couldn't have asked for a more qualified person to take on this responsibility. His experience at Whitchurch CC will serve him well. Nick has been honored as a Life Member of the SCCL, and while the new executive settles into their roles, we have co-opted Nick, with his 40 years of league experience, onto the executive committee. Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to Matt Porter of Cound CC, who continues to serve as our dedicated secretary for his third year. I look forward to working closely with all of you.
Cricket has been a significant part of my life for over 25 years, starting with my time at Trysull & Seisdon Cricket Club and, since 2010, with Quatt Cricket Club, where I’ve proudly served as Chairman for the past three years.
I have been fortunate enough to be involved across the spectrum of the game including playing, scoring, umpiring and indeed as a club chairman and throughout my time in cricket, I have come to appreciate the sense of community, sportsmanship, and dedication that defines our wonderful game.
As your Chairman, I aim to uphold these values while fostering an open and transparent environment. I welcome your ideas, feedback, and involvement to ensure we grow together as a league and continue to inspire the next generation of cricketers.
As we look forward to the 2025 season, let us also take a moment to reflect on the joy cricket brings to our lives and the friendships it creates. Whether on the field or supporting from the boundary, our shared love for the game unites us all.
