We are pleased to announce that Mike Hall, our long standing League Treasurer and Quayside club cricketer has won the SCCL Brian Kitson Lifetime Achievement Award

Mike started playing in 1969 (he may well have appeared earlier, but we don’t have any records before then). He played for NALGO/Unison/Quayside for 44 consecutive seasons before “retiring from playing” in 2013, though there has been the occasional appearance after that, when a seasoned professional was required (the last time being 2022).
At his peak Mike was an attacking left-handed opening batsman with his one and only century (119*) being against Ellesmere 2nd XI in 1988. He scored nearly 5000 runs in his career. In addition to opening the batting Mike could often be found opening the bowling with his right arm medium pacer away swingers. He took over 600 wickets to leave himself third highest wicket taker in the club’s history.

On the administration side of the club, Mike was captain for a number of seasons and has been Quayside treasurer for as long as many have known him. In the earlier days when the club played at Shirehall, Mike was always one of the first to volunteer to roll the pitch on a Friday night before a game.
As well as playing and helping to run Quayside, Mike became treasurer to the old Shropshire Cricket League in 1996 at the time the leagues split, with the leading clubs forming the Shropshire Premier League. He remained as treasurer when the leagues merged in late 2011 to become what we know as the SCCL, and in total has served as treasurer for 28 years.

He has been chairman of the finance, sponsorship, and cricket balls sub committees pretty much throughout his tenure. At the start of 2024, Mike formally announced his retirement from the SCCL would take place at the AGM
Mike you truly have been a credit to the wider Shropshire Cricket family! Thankyou!
